21.09—13.10.24
Between 21.09-13.10.2024, we are establishing OFC: OFFICE FOR COLLECTIVITIES at the SKALA Gallery in Poznań, which will focus on developing a dialogue on one of the most important methodological shifts in the field of contemporary art. In the course of our work and activities, we will try to answer the questions: when is art collective, when creative activities require the cooperation of people with specific competences, why do we group ourselves in art-practices when the entire system of promoting culture has been demanding extremely individualized attitudes and building our own visual capital from us for years? We will talk about temporary collectivities on a par with the practices of art collectives that have existed and been working for a long time, and we will take up important contemporary issues to discuss them with the audience, translate them into the language of art during workshops and walks, unique audio and visual events, as well as para-culinary events, and even activities in the field of alternative tourism. Our task will also be to refer to the results of the discussion, to do something together, to create a temporary collective with specific agency, cooperating with the audience and its competences, which can develop during the program.
In the following weeks, the Office will be led by invited international art-oriented and research-based initiatives and art-collectives, including, among others, members of the international collective outsideininsideout, artist and educator Vincent Rumahloine from Indonesia together with the Rakarsa Foundation from Bandung and artist Arya Sudrajat, who also represents the community of the so-called Jelekong painters’ village in West Java, which deals with “fast painting” and is a kind of local alternative art-economy, as well as creative groups and initiatives from Poland (and abroad), which will respond to the invitation in the open-call mode.
Over the course of three weeks at the turn of September and October, persons from the above-mentioned initiatives will live in Poznań for a while, and the SKALA Gallery will become the headquarters of the office for planning activities and initiating changes in the local art-fabric of Poznań and its surroundings. In the course of the work, a publication (in the post-reader type) and an archive of texts will also be created – commentaries on the issues raised in the program and conversations with people co-creating the office (as a result, later available as an online publication). The established cooperation and dialogue may also turn into further activities, crossing local geographies and habits.
COLLECTIVES, INITIATIVES AND CREATIVE GROUPS can apply to the program at: https://forms.gle/SWxPjXYHC1FuDPso6 until the end of OFC exhibition, describing what they do and what they would like to propose for the joint program of activities in the Gallery or outside it. You can use the link to open call fill-in formula we provide below. We are waiting for your applications, and we invite future guests and guests of the program (both collective and individual) to the OFC Office.
The office will open on Saturday 21/09 at 9:00 PM in the SKALA Gallery. We will publish the program on the Gallery’s website and in its social media. See you there!
